ooh...that is a bit suspicious, isn't it.

And what, pray tell, will a laptop do for anyone? Runn elementary had some huge grant for technology and like any good school, spent it all on the latest technology. Their classrooms looked like any classroom in any rich, suburban neighborhood.

Then, one day, the principal noticed that the children didn't know how to read. Still. So when I toured the school, the computers sat with their dust covers on, not connected, while the time was used for additional reading instruction.

Here in our local school district, they received federal funds for computers. So what did they do? They spent a million or so to buy apple laptops for every kid in this low performing elementary school.

I remember talking to one of the school board members about this, and she was so proud of what they were doing. I asked her what was on the computers...what kind of software they were using. She said, "I don't know...I don't know much about computers. But this new Director of Technology knows so much more...he's on the cutting edge of these things."

Turns out this Director of Technology bought all those computers through his brother's business!!!!Cha-ching!

I agree with you, kids don't need all that stuff. They need to learn how to read and think. It is ridiculous. Standardized testing will only make things worse.
