Thanks, Scatty! I noticed that the entry had either been deleted or archived or something. The link no longer worked and no searches got me there. That is nice, but it would be nicer if they issued a sort of retraction or correction for the misinformation.

Somehow, it seems to me that their attempt at an explanation made the state's problematic position yet more obvious.

I'll take a look at the case this evening that you posted. I read their paperwork posted online sometime ago, and read a little after their court case, but have been curious about what has happened since.

That is interesting that you live there. I assume the American school is no longer there? I took my ACT there, and the teacher talked to me a bit afterwards about how sad he was to be leaving the area as the DOD lessened its presence.

Hi, Dana, thanks for linking to my blog. BTW, I live near Osterholz-Scharmbeck (Lilienthal). I have just posted the judgement in the recent Neubronner case on my blog. It makes interesting reading, even if it does give one an urge to bang one's head against a wall. Those German judgements are so stuck in their paradigm.

I definitely agree. Maybe I should collect all the "great" quotes German politicians have said in regards to homeschooling. I particularly like Sven-Georg Adenauer's contribution to the subject, "They must adapt to Germany; that is part of compulsory school attendance. And if they don’t want to do that, they should go back to their homeland. There is no room here for fundamentalists." Referring to the Russian Baptists who were attempting to homeschool their children in Paderborn.

I find this to be particularly frightening.

"Furthermore, given recent world events, general school attendance is seen by parts of the German public as a means of protection from religious fundamentalism. Home schooling might allow religious fanatics to indoctrinate children in uncontrollable ways."
