Scatty, however will I survive? They can link to or refuse to link to whomever they choose, but it gets impossible fast...unless you just decide not to link to anyone.

ArmyAngel, thank you so much for sharing your perspective. The author might be surprised to know that I decided to remain abstinent long before becoming a Christian. I don't exactly know why. I remember a conversation with my mom when I was about 8...I announced I wouldn't never smoke and not have sex before marriage. She responded with the terribly supportive, "I wish I had a tape recorder so I could replay that to you when you are 16."

Most influential to me, however, were two incidents in junior high. A friend of mine returned from Spring Break and confided to me that it was a good break because she "only got laid once." I knew she was sexually active, but never realized before then that it was against her will. Why did she do it?

The other was while sitting in the back of Chemistry. Russell had just stared seeing Holly. First date, I believe. He was showing off the outline of the condom in his wallet and the other boys were taking bets about how far he would get.

Why would I want to join in that mess?

But the Christian is abusive for desiring to save their children from this? For teaching there is more to sex? For teaching this is one of the greatest gifts God gave to mankind, physically pleasurable and spiritually uniting?

Crimson Wife, I'm not sure, but I would guess the visitors of this site may well view marriage as an archaic and enslaving institution. : (

All I can say is wow. I personally do not know a single woman who regrets waiting for Mr. Right but several who regret *NOT* waiting.

I wonder what the pro-premarital sex crowd makes of the statistics showing that the higher the number of pre-marital sexual partners, the lower the likelihood of marrying and the higher the likelihood of divorce?

I guess that Janie-Belle would rather Michelle was that lucky 13 year old British girl who was sexually molested by a teenage German boy whilst on vacation in Turkey (apparently she made out she was 15 and things got a little out of hand).

You gotta watch out what you link to, Dana. I think you can forget about getting onto a carnival hosted by homeschoolblogger after this ;-)

Some country (maybe yours), Some time (maybe in the not too distant future)

New Federal Statute to be immediately enforced across the entire breath of this land.

Those caught practicing abstinence OR those young enough to not know any better MUST immediately report to the National Center for Social Compliance and be un-abstinated.

Disobedience to this law will result in:

1) The legal forcible rape of said offender without consequence to person performing said social deed.

2) Internment into Social Re-education camp where arbeit macht frei. Offender must have no fewer than 100 social compliance acts before parole could be considered.

Thank you to the citizenry for reporting these criminals.

I only hope that my children will be "abused" by this indoctrination of purity instead of by the teenage society that focuses on how many times you've been kissed or how many boyfriends "loved" you. That is such a set up for a damaged, broken heart.

Wow. I'm shocked by the venom directed at a virtuous lifestyle. I guess I shouldn't be, JanieBelle is only saying what those promoting a sexualization agenda are really supporting, regardless of how they wrap it up in politically correct terms.

It is funny how those so-called "free choice" types don't want anyone to make a choice different from theirs.

Having read the article--yes, people do have regrets. I have regret about how and when and with whom I lost my virginity. Not horrible regret, not regret I think about all the time nor regret that plagues me, but regret as time goes on and I see what could have been or should have beenif it should happen to cross my mind, such as when this articulte brings it to my awareness. So yes, there is regret our there for the actions we DO take. The writer is very naive there.

As for regrets for what we have not done -- that is a famous quote of Mark Twain's:

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."

And yes it is very true. But how many of us lay on our death beds and regret such trivial things as a missed kiss. Honestly! Looking over our life would have us reflecting on much bigger things. Again, showing the age and maturity of the writer.

But I can understand what he is getting at and I am sure that in some cases extreme indoctrination and insulation do happen. But I am afraid he is using the extreme as a generalization.

Hmmm. I wonder what the writer would think of girls like me, public-schooled & non-religious, who have never been kissed and are quite happy about it! Some people are so brainwashed they assume if something (abstinence) is embraced by a certain sect (religious group) than they must disagree with it because only crazies would do that! No dear, some things are just wrong, no matter what your religious beliefs are.
