In 2005, homeschooled teenager Lindsay Giambattista wanted to give away some of her old clothes to someone who would need them. Ten trash bags of clothes didn’t seem like quite enough, however, and she began reaching out to neighbors and family. You never know quite where an idea will lead you. From her website:
So after considerable prayer and debate, the idea was born. Taylor ’s Closet would allow girls in foster care to come into a store-like environment and “shop” for whatever clothes they liked – completely free of charge. The idea was just to put a smile on their face for a moment and let them know they weren’t alone. Taylor’s Closet
Taylor’s Closet, named for her twin sister who died at birth, was born. She now oversees a small boutique with over $1 million in inventory donated from all over the world to serve the foster children of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Similar boutiques have opened in Dallas and Spokane, with more planned. One in every state, says ambitious Lindsay.

Forward to Mayor Fenty, please.
Wow, what a great idea.
More teens should follow her example.
Summer, I agree. It always amazes me how much young people can do when given the time and support.
Life on the Planet, Mayor Fenty actually was in the original draft but I decided to curb my venom for awhile and let my entry be about something positive, without the sarcasm. : )
