Would you like to be a part of a homeschool blog network?

Update: The BlogNetNews Homeschool Page is now live!

BlogNetNews.com is getting ready to add a new feature to their website especially for homeschooling blogs. It will be similar to the community pages over at Truth Laid Bear, with the exception that these pages are actually working. (Hey! TTLB is working again, too, even if it still only reads some of the feeds!) Here is a sample of what the page will look like (this is the parenting section).

Network members will have their blog linked in the right sidebar, with an excerpt from the feed posted in the middle. The left sidebar gives readers some overview information about some of the more popular items and subscription options.

If you would like to be included, please leave a comment. If you fill in your url and email in the comment form, there is no need to repost it in the comment itself. If you know anyone else who might be interested, please let them know! I need to get an initial list together and then it will take about a week for the administrator to build the page for us.

There are not really any rules other than your blog needs to be homeschol related. If you are not sure it really does, you can look around the website and find a community that suits your blog better.

Updated to clarify: You do not have to post the feed in your sidebar, so there is no need to worry about the material posted.  When everything is set up, I may send out an email to everyone who asked to join with options to link, but from what I can tell, this is voluntary.  These are the rules as set up by BNN, which may affect some:

Blogs must be at least 90 days old before they are eligible to join. Participation in “Pay-per-Post” and other undisclosed advertising is grounds for removal from BNN.

That bit about Pay-per-Post is important since I know many homeschool blogs participate in that.  I’m sorry I didn’t post it in the original entry.

I write about homeschooling and a little more, but always home, kid, and parenting-related.

  2. Dana, January 26, 2008:

Your site is great! I’ll let you know when the page is set up!

  3. Suzanne, January 26, 2008:

i’m lovin’ all of this! my site is a conglomerate of our life, but takes in homeschooling. will it count? if not, just let me know.

  4. Love2learn Mom, January 26, 2008:

What a great idea, I’m interested!

  5. JJ Ross, January 26, 2008:

Well, I certainly fit the bill of “broad” — and I agree with Daryl, this is a classy move to reflect home education more as network than monolith or war zone. :)

  6. Amy, January 26, 2008:

Sounds great! Please sign me up.

  7. Life On The Planet, January 26, 2008:

The feed from them posted on my site would concern me. My kids read my site, and there were one or two words used in the excerpts that I’m not ready to add to the nine-year-old’s reading list. Is there any way around that, or is it a mandatory part of joining up?

  8. Melanie, January 26, 2008:

I would love to participate if it doesn’t require anything added to the blog. I own on the content on the blog, but as part of a larger company I don’t get to design it – and part of that is no sidebar stuff other than our GoogleAds.

I do a “resource of the day” post plus occasional other homeschool posts.

    Thanks!

  9. Sunniemom, January 26, 2008:

    Count me in! :D

  10. Mrs. Mecomber, January 26, 2008:

The website is smashing! I replied to your email with the information. Thanks for thinking of me. :)

  11. Spunky, January 26, 2008:

I was just talking to someone via email about this very thing.

    Very cool.

  12. MamaArcher, January 26, 2008:

    count me in!

  13. Adso of Melk, January 26, 2008:

    Great idea!

  14. Alasandra, January 26, 2008:

I am going to start posting all my homeschool post at Alasandra’s Homeschool Blog Awards.

    This is the link http://alasandras.blogspot.com/

It will be a strictly homeschooling blog.

  15. Dana, January 26, 2008:

I’ll add this to the post, but no, you are not required to place the feed on the site. Usually, the site asks for there to be a link back, so I will probably sent out a small strip of code that just points back to BNN, like the homeschool network button in my sidebar.

I’ll check if this is even mandatory. (It isn’t my site…I’ll just be editing the page!) If you look at Judy Aron’s blog, she has the button in her sidebar linking to the Connecticut blogs.

  16. Shawna, January 26, 2008:

I’m interested, but I am not sure I get the whole thing. Very basic blogger here :-)

  17. Shauna, January 26, 2008:

    I’m interested!

  18. Dawn, January 26, 2008:

    Count me in!

  19. Hercules Mulligan, January 26, 2008:

    Hello Dana.

Someone gave me a link to this, and suggested that I submit my blogs.

Although I do write about homeschooling periodically, the blogs are not strictly about homeschooling; however, I have been given a homeschooled education, and these blogs are the result of that education and my own independent study. I also think that the unique information presented on them, and the invaluable writings of the Founders cataloged on them, would be useful to any homeschooler with Internet access. If you think that my blogs qualify to be listed, I would be honored. The addresses to them are:

    http://www.thefoundationforum.blogspot.com
    http://www.meetthefounders.blogspot.com
    http://www.foundersbookshelf.blogspot.com
    http://www.ahpatriot.blogspot.com

Thanks for letting us know about this great opportunity! :D

  20. Dana, January 26, 2008:

Shawna, there isn’t much to it. Once the information is entered, there isn’t anything you need to do. It just provides a sort of central page people can go to to peruse headlines from homeschooling blogs.

Thank you everyone! You probably won’t hear back from me until after it gets set up unless you email me with a question or I have a problem accessing your site.

  21. Carole, January 26, 2008:

I post about us Classically hs’ing.

  22. Trish/MamaBugs, January 26, 2008:

    Dana,
Thanks for this information! I’d love to be a part of it!

  23. April, January 27, 2008:

    Dana-

I would like to participate too. Thank you for coordinating this. I glean so much from other blogging homeschool mom’s. What a blessing….

  24. Kysha, January 27, 2008:

    Sure. Count me in!

  25. Carrie K., January 27, 2008:

I’d like to participate – thanks!

  26. April, January 27, 2008:

This sounds like a compelling idea – I would love to join in. Thanks!

    (the other) April

  27. Dana, January 27, 2008:

Wow, thanks for the positive response, everyone! And April and the other April…where’s the other other April? I didn’t realize I knew three. : )

  28. Valerie, January 27, 2008:

This sounds interesting, Dana. What’s “pay per post,” though?

I’ve got the NewsComm blog for HEM, and my personal blog.

  29. Colleen, January 27, 2008:
  30. Kerry, January 27, 2008:

Sometimes I’m an idiot about these things, so correct me if I’ve misunderstood you… but did we need to leave our URL in YOUR comments? If so, I’ve done that with this post. If not (if we are supposed to do that elsewhere) can you clarify?

I’d love to be included in this “network”.

    Thanks,
    Kerry

  31. Mary Nix, January 27, 2008:

    Hi Dana,

    Please Add:

    HEM Guide to Resources
    http://www.homeedmag.com/blogs/resources/

    HEM Support Group Blog
    http://www.homeedmag.com/blogs/groupnews/

and Valerie wanted to add HEM News and Commentary as well. The link for that is:
    http://www.homeedmag.com/blogs/newscomm/

    Thanks!

  32. Dana, January 27, 2008:

Kerry, not a problem. When you left your comment, you were asked for an email address and a url. As long as that is the blog you want entered, I have the information. All you need to do is enter valid info in those fields and indicate you want to be a part. If I have any problems once the page is being put together, I’ll email you. Otherwise, I’ll email everyone as soon s it is together.

Pay Per Post is an advertising thing. I don’t know that much about it except that they pay you to post about certain products and services. Here is there home page.

    http://payperpost.com/?gclid=COSC_fSYl5ECFQspFQod8k-ROA

  33. Dana, January 27, 2008:

btw, if you have more than one blog and enter multiple urls, that is fine. The comment will be held for moderation, and approved as soon as I see it.

And now I’m off to the hospital…hopefully for nothing, but I’m worried about a possible concussion in my two year old.

  34. MandyMom, January 27, 2008:

Hey Dana, I don’t know if there’s anything more I need to do- but I would love for my homeschool blog to be featured in the feed.

    It is called NOGGIN NEWS.

    Thanks for letting us know!

  35. Life On The Planet, January 28, 2008:

Okay, I’m in. Do they let people join who aren’t named April? :)

  36. Susan Ryan, January 28, 2008:

I don’t know what pay by post is, so I must be ok. :-)
Thanks Dana. Hope your cute little Bug is all right.

  37. Dana, January 28, 2008:

How ’bout if I make it for Aprils and Susans? That covers about half my commenters, I think.

Bug has a slight concussion, but is fine. I feel bad…I saw her fall at the library, but didn’t realize she hit her head. She crawled in my lap while I was typing and that was when I saw the bruise. Since she was acting sluggish, I decided to take her in. By the time I got there she was her normal self, but I feel better anyway!

  38. Adso of Melk, January 28, 2008:

    Sure, count me in.

  39. Valerie, January 28, 2008:

Glad to hear that Bug’s doing well, Dana. I feel a connection to her as our youngest (now 25) was also called Bug at that age. :)

  40. Dana, January 28, 2008:

Aw…yours must be an adorable sweetie, too, then. : ) She’s completely back to her normal self this morning!

  41. Jennifer in OR, January 30, 2008:

I’d love to be included. I’m terrible with blog-tech stuff, but it sounds like I don’t need to put a button in my sidebar, which is good, since I don’t know how to do that. :-) And I don’t know how to do Pay per Post, but I like the thought of getting paid!! Thanks so much for offering this network!

  42. Melissa Wiley, February 3, 2008:

    Dana, count me in, please!

  43. Unity, February 7, 2008:

    Count me in!

  44. Dana, February 12, 2008:

OK, just finished the first list. Now the real work begins. : ) I’ll email everyone when the site is up…I haven’t forgotten about it!

  45. Jim Bob Howard, November 6, 2008:

    Thanks for including me.

  46. Betsy, November 6, 2008:

I think I am already a part of this, but just incase.

  47. Linda, November 6, 2008:

    Thanks, Dana.

  48. beth @ brew*crew, November 6, 2008:

Hey Dana, great idea! I recently took TTLB off my blog, but would love to be part of this HS Network. :-)
    ttyl

  49. Jodi, November 6, 2008:

    Count me in, too!

  50. Christine, November 6, 2008:

Me!! ME!!! I’d like to join in on this too please!

  51. Jerri Ann, November 6, 2008:

I write Mom is Teaching (www.momisteaching.com) and originally it was an exclusive homeschooling site. Since I took over, we’ve manage to cover a lot of education that is done in many fashions…i.e. homeschooling, daycare schooling, public schooling…..simply parents educating their children on life in general, and hopefully before long we can add in the ministers, policemen, firemen, etc to our list of “teachers” or “educators”.

I don’t know with all that if I qualify to be part of this homeschooling link but I most definitely would like to be included. As it is right now, I would say that 80% of the posts and discussion on the blog is homeschool related.

  52. Michelle Pendergrass, November 6, 2008:

Please list me? The blog will be 90 days old this month!

  53. Andrea, November 6, 2008:

Hey Dana, great idea. What do you think about the inclusion of the homeschooljournal network of blogs? Or would you rather take them on a case-by-case, one at a time basis?

  54. Sallie, November 6, 2008:

    AWESOME!

  55. Dana Hanley, November 6, 2008:

Andrea, I’m fine to take any or all. I’m not sure how to do it all at once…is there a feed for the whole network to put in?

  56. Theresa, November 6, 2008:

I would love to be included!

  57. Dana Hanley, November 6, 2008:

Everyone to here should be added…except the one I emailed because the feed didn’t work and Theresa who I shall be adding in a moment.

  58. Dana Hanley, November 6, 2008:

    Nevermind…I did add hers. :)

  59. Spookygirl, November 6, 2008:

    I’d like to join :)

    Just saw this on twitter..

  60. Lydia, November 6, 2008:

Me! :) I think I already requested to join BBN, so apologies if this is a duplicate! Thanks for the work you’re doing on this… fantastic of you.

  61. Allen, November 6, 2008:

Hope I’m not too late – I didn’t notice the Twitter post til today.
Please consider my blog for your network.

  62. JoAnn, November 6, 2008:

I have a homeschool blog that I’d be interested in including. I blog about things we’re studying, field trips we’ve taken, activities/projects we’ve made, family life, money saving tips, frugal recipes, and some other things.
