A little reading while I am out

February 6, I will be at the NCHEA Legislative Day, learning about our legislature and discussing the homeschool bill which will have its first hearing at the end of this month.  Unfortunately, my husband is also having surgery and I will have to leave before I am able to speak with my senator.

A few links while I am gone:

And just what do our legislators think their job is?  It is bad enough to introduce a bill that would prohibit restaurants from serving obese patrons.  But the Republican co-author didn’t really expect the bill to do anything but…but what?

State Rep. John Read, a Republican who is one of the bill’s three authors, says he wasn’t trying to offend anybody and never even expected the plan to become law.

“I was trying to shed a little light on the No. 1 problem in Mississippi,” he says. The state has the highest obesity rate in the USA.  USA Today

Luckily, the Democratic governor has enough sense to promise a pocket veto.  It wasn’t that long ago that a representative from Massachusetts introduced a bill against spanking for the purpose of sparking discussion.  But “discussion” isn’t what laws are for.

MomGadget takes the “pulse of the blogosphere,” collecting a few of the highest trafficked posts from several bloggers.  It is interesting to see what attracts the interest of readers.

This list has been going around for awhile, but in case you don’t have enough to read already, here are 50 of the best homeschooling blogs.  According to CollegeDegree.com, anyway.
