BNN homeschool community is live

The wonderful administrator over at BlogNetNews.com put together our homeschool community page and it is now live!

Unfortunately, at present I know about as much about what you can do with it as you do. Unless you are Judy from Consent of the Governed who edits the Connecticut blogs. She knows way more than me. But I do know how to add a blog or edit a blog so if I made any more mistakes that I did not already find, please let me know!

If you have a homeschool blog and would like to be included, we even have a handy submission form now.

Let me know if you have any questions, and I will either answer them or add them to my list of things to ask someone else.

Thanks for all you work! This looks great.

Where do we go to get the html code for a side bar button? I need a small one.

  4. Dana, February 29, 2008:

I’m looking into button issues…I need a smaller one, too! I’ll let you know as soon as I do.

I don’t get it — are we supposed to “post” something from our blog we really want to share, or do we just wait to see if you pick something or not?

  6. Dana, February 29, 2008:

I’m not sure I understand your question, so if this answer makes no sense please let me know.

Your feed should be entered in the BNN homeschool community. Then any time you post, BNN reads your feed and posts the title and so many characters in the center column of the page. It is completely automated.

If it isn’t picking up your feed, please let me know. I know of one that isn’t being read and I’m not sure why at the moment…yours appears to be there however:

Right now, it has a lot of my entries because I had accidentally put in my comment feed rather than post feed and when I fixed the problem, it read my last 10 posts as new. It may do that to any new blog I enter, I’m not sure.

LOL - well, there you go. An automatic feed hadn’t occurred to me and I’ve never used one! So I do I have one in place on your end then, but it just hasn’t picked anything up yet? Or maybe I need to do something on my end to “activate” it? Is that what the talk about “the button” is?

  8. Dana, February 29, 2008:

I don’t think you need to do anything. When I click on Cocking a Snook in the sidebar, it pulls up your feed so I think it is reading. What is on the front page at the moment looks like it has been posted since your most recent post.

After you post again, check to see if it worked. I think it will only access your feed every 30 minutes or something, so you may not see anything for half an hour, but it should appear.

If not, I’ll see if I can work out why.

Dana, I should confess - I’m certain it’s my fault my feed isn’t working. Kind of like when I pick a line in Wal-Mart and then someone needs a price check. I have bad Karma. Sad, but there it is.

  10. Dana, February 29, 2008:

I’ll take your line picking Karma into consideration when I fiddle with it some more.

I just noticed, however, that your blog is ranked as the third most linked blog with a total of negative two links.

I’m trying to figure out how one gets negative links. So you must be good.

  11. Dana, February 29, 2008:

Well, just for the fun of it, I deleted you and re-added you. It doesn’t appear to have helped, but I’ll check again later and see if it has read your feed since changes can take awhile to show.

If that doesn’t work, your blog apparently published three feeds in addition to the feedburner feed, so I may just go through each of them and see if one of them works.

Negative feeds? How did I get negative feeds? (And what exactly is a negative feed?)

    This can’t end well.

  14. Dana, March 1, 2008:

I’m at a loss. It picks up your feed fine in the admin panel. Maybe there is a setting in Typepad? I don’t know. But the proper authorities will be notified and hopefully it will be resolved in the near future.

Something weird is going on. Now for some reason it is pulling old posts of mine and not other people’s. Hmm….hopefully it will settle down. : )
