Coming soon…
In July, I shall be beginning a new venture which I am looking forward to with great anticipation…and a good deal of fear and trepidation as well. I have been invited by a sort of network of conservative bloggers to host a talk show. Kind of like Rush or Larry King, except about homeschooling, over the internet and done from my home with four children running around in the background.
Who knows? Maybe you will get to hear the baby crying, the older two fighting and me lose my temper all in the first five minutes. I’m sure that is enough to keep you on the edge of your seats until July.
The main focus of the show will be similar to the kinds of things I talk about here on my blog: homeschool news and opinion. I will, however, be interviewing people involved in homeschooling to hopefully include a broad array of perspectives, provide encouragement and present a platform for discussion of issues related to homeschooling children.
If you would like to be interviewed or, better yet, would like to co-host a segment (one time, not every week!) where you will not only answer my questions but those of the tens of people who will be listening, please email me. Or even if you have a suggestion of someone else who you would like to listen to in such a format. The easiest way is via my contact form.
I am also looking for audio files to use as transitions and introductions. Right now, I have two specific needs in mind: thirty second rants about anything related to homeschooling (no profanity, please), and brief introductions to your homeschool. If you are interested in contributing to this project, however, please do not limit yourself to these suggestions. Humor, satire, encouragement, a brief production put on by your children…anything will be considered. Just remember to keep it brief. I cannot pay for any of this, but you certainly will receive credit and I can email you when your piece airs.
I will slowly provide more details as the show comes together. Things like show times, where to listen and how to call in as well as topics and guests lined up. In the meantime, feel free to offer your advice and suggestions. I have a pretty good idea of what I want to do, but this will be a completely new medium for me. And despite my nervousness over it all, I really am looking forward to really talking to you about some of the issues I find most important.
Oh, and I am looking into developing a nicer logo and button for promotion of the talk show. In the meantime, however, if you find yourself just too excited to wait, you are more than welcome to use my button above. You can link it back to this category (homeschool talk show), and always find the latest information on the show, including a link to the current one when I get that far.

I can’t wait! A homeschoolers talk show…we’ve come a long way, baby.
Please tell us that the Rush comment was off-the-cuff, and that you actually have higher aspirations than that!
Ha! Thanks for the laugh, COD. Yes, I’ve already been told that Rush needs to be knocked down a rung or two. I’m sure this show is just the one to do it.
And yes, LOTP, you know you have come into the world when your issue finally has its own talk show. I have been listening to a TON of talk radio over the last month as I prepare for this and you wouldn’t believe the kind of stuff that is out there. Not on the internet even. How does wine get a talk show and not homeschooling? That just ain’t right.
Good for you, Dana! And good for homeschoolers. It’ll be nice to hear a homeschooler talking about homeschooling. What a thought!
How exciting! Will be waiting anxiously for the link.
Very cool, Dana. When your famous I can say “I knew you when.”
Congratulations! I’m fairly new to your blog, but find it insightful and inspiring. Looking forward to this new venture of yours!
When I’m famous…ha!
Thank you, Diana! Glad to “meet” you and welcome!
Cool. You should open with a 30-second riff on all the dumb things people say to us, with all different voices:
“I admire you!”
“I could never be that patient!”
“Aren’t you a pioneer woman!”
“Don’t you ever get time to yourself?”
“How do you know they’re learning anything?”
“Well, I want my children to be exposed to the real world…”
and then do some sort of voiceover that makes fun of it all…
Excellent! Which platform will you be using to stream your show?
Ooh, I like that idea, suburbancorrespondent!
And mrs durff, that is still under discussion. I think I know, but that may change. I’ll let you all know as soon as I’m reasonably certain.
If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. I think I know the pros and cons of each, but there are often things tucked away that I hadn’t heard of yet!
Wow, you are a busy woman! How do you squeeze it all in–now that is a topic!
Yes, that is a topic. When you figure it out, let me know.
Let me know, too (she types as the frozen pizza burns in the oven and sets the fire alarm off)!!!!!
I would love to hear interviews with folks from across the spectrum of homeschooling and learning. I have found over the years that people I’ve never heard of often say something profound that is helpful to me. Sometimes I go the opposite direction from what they intended, but it is still helpful.
I had a lot more thoughts, but I’ll try to marshal them onto my own post and link over.
We had cantaloupe and banana sandwiches for lunch. Nutritious and not a fire hazard.
Don’t ask where they get that from…just blame it on the Australian in the house.
That would be wonderful, Sebastian! And it always amazes me how much I do learn from people whose philosophies are wholly different from my own.
Thhis sounds like fun! Im definitely going to lsiten!
Congratulations! This is too cool!
Dana, you are just the person to do this, too.
Sounds like a great idea- I have listened to a few homeschool podcasts, and while they had some good info, they weren’t my ‘flavor’. One thing about good talk radio is the diversity of ideas presented in an entertaining format. I can listen to someone I disagree with if they are intellectually engaging and have a sense of humor, which is why I can enjoy Boortz and Limbaugh even when they get on my nerves, but I lapse into a coma listening to the joyless goons on Air America.
I agree with Mrs. C- you are just the girl to do this for home education. I know I will be tuning in!
Funny that you should mention Boortz. In the many hours of listening to talk radio I have logged since I decided to pursue this, Boortz has perhaps been the most encouraging. His show isn’t as polished, but he has such a sense of humor about his mistakes and just keeps going. And I still enjoy it.
Sounds great!
Congratulations, sounds exciting…and nail biting.
All the best to you in this adventure. I’ll be sure to check for updates about this.
Woohoo! More of Dana around the net. I already told you I think you’re the bees knees and I’m just glad that even more people will figure that out.
You will be great at it, nervous mistakes and all. It will be like we are all around your living room and chatting with friends. It sounds awesome. Okay, enough gushing…
“Exciting…and nail biting…”
Yeah, that about sums it up!
And thank you for encouragement, Anna-Marie. I appreciate it, and that is what I keep telling myself. I’m talking to the people I “chat” with all the time anyway.
I figure when I get tongue tied and flustered, I can play a clip of my kids…or someone else’s kids…and take a few deep breaths.
So is the show going to be taped so we can listen later? Like after I miss it, which I know I will?
Nance
Great question! And yes. I believe it is available for download immediately after the broadcast, but there may be a bit of a delay. I’ll check on that but I know it is archived and available, just not sure of the delay.
Hi Dana. Congratulations! I must confess that I really don’t listen to the radio, but will your broadcast have an online archive page? If so, do you know where (and when) I can find it?
Thanks!
It is over the internet, and yes, the shows will be archived and available for download. I’ll email you about the rest because it isn’t absolutely final yet.
