Homeschool graduate running for CT legislature

And that graduate would be none other than Judy Aron’s son, David.

David Aron doesn’t let the stats get in his way. Such as he’s one of about 4,000 registered Republicans in Hamden versus about 14,000 Democrats. Such as he just moved to town about 18 months ago and is not very well known. Such as he’s just 24 and has never run for local or any office, before. Hamden Daily News

Maybe that is a side effect of sheltering your children from reality. They just don’t focus so much on their odds and focus instead on how to overcome them.

Congratulations, David…and Judy. I know you are very excited and proud.

Almost forgot to announce this, but the Carnival of Homeschooling is up over at Po Moyemu.  And the Carnival of Education is up over at Teacher in a Strange Land.

Congratulations to David–and to his family!

If elected, he wont be the first youth in office. I’m sure he will find sympathetic support from John Tyler Hammons and Chris Brown.

I think this also points to another widespread educational misconception: that formal/institutional schooling is the primary gateway to achievement in life. As with other myths of the Education-Industrial Complex, it’s not so simple…

Very true! It is funny…people tend to think that way, but most of the truly great people we read about in our history books had a unique education as a child.

Dana - you might be interested to know that David quoted you in his nomination acceptance speech:
He mentioned you and said “I just don’t focus so much on the odds and focus instead on how to overcome them.”
So thanks for giving him that great bit of insight.

How cool is that? Thank you for letting me know!
