I came home with several treasures from the library book sale, but one of the most exciting was meeting another homeschooler. Sarah, from Here a Little, There a Little, recognized my daughter as she was perusing books and asked if she would mind introducing her. All because she reads my blog and recognized little Mouse from her pictures.
I feel like a celebrity or something.
And now to the exciting giveaway. Due to a slight misunderstanding, my dear and loving husband purchased a copy of “Junior Science on File.” So did I. I therefore have an extra copy to give away. I believe it is the same information as is provided on this CD: Junior Science Diagrams On File, however not in CD form.
It is a nice binder with 266 detachable “plates” grouped into units including:
- Units (measurement)
- Physical Sciences
- Life Sciences
- The Environment
- The Human Body
- Earth Science
- Space Science
These plates are diagrams of basic science principles which are printed on card stock and may be photocopied. It even comes with a little photocopy certificate so you are free to share this resource with your homeschool group/co-op. It does not include the experiments and projects that my others do, but it is a nice resource for summary information on a large variety of science topics as well as visual information for textbook supplementation or worksheets and tests. If you do not have a science textbook and are making up your own science curriculum (as we are), they serve as an excellent guide to assist you in organizing your basic units so you do not forget anything important.
We have been using the Science Projects on File in this manner, by using each section as a guide, checking out books from the library and doing the projects and experiments in each section. The age guide says they are meant for grades 4-9, but I think they are well adapted for younger children because of the visual and hands-on approach. In fact, other than as a quick review, I do not see this particular binder as particularly useful for junior or senior high.
I have not gone through the entire binder, so there is a possibility that some pages are missing, but in general, it is in good shape, although some of the holes need reinforced or they may tear free of the binder with continued use.
***If you are interested, all you need to do is leave a comment and indicate that you would like to be included in the drawing. Don’t forget that second part or I might just think you are leaving a comment because you like me.***
(It is secular, but basic science. It does contain references to “millions of years” in the Earth Science section and has an anatomically correct diagram of people in the Human Anatomy section. If that bothers you, you could simply remove those few pages, black them out, dress the people or, as we do when we run into references to things that we disagree with, use it as an opportunity to discuss different worldviews.)
If you have any questions, please ask. I will announce the winner next Friday (October 24), barring the unforeseen. Just be sure to include your correct email address in the comment form so I can contact you (it will only be visible to me…you don’t need to enter it in your actual comment).
**I will ship anywhere in the US or Canada.**

I would love a chance at this resource. Thankyou!
I would love to be included in the drawing…AND I like you and your blog!! And I promise I’ll keep coming even if I don’t win!
Well, that is good to know, Linda. I never thought of that…scores of loyal readers all upset because they didn’t win. Accusations of favoritism or cheating…maybe even false comment registrations to rig the whole process. What am I getting into?!
I came home with a few goodies today but the highlight was meeting you, Dana. Your daughter was so sweet to help me find you. I debated about asking her–didn’t want to “freak her out”–but goodness, it’s so nice to meet folks in the real world when possible.
I don’t know who got to the science books first, but I bought several of the same ones you listed. (Field guides were at the top of my list today.) I also purchased guides for animal tracks, two books on shells, and another on pond life.
And, uh, I bought the Jr. Facts on File for Science so please don’t put my name in the hat.
We’ll be finishing up our science text in a few months and I think we’re going to use this resource along with a book I purchased a few years ago at another library sale for the rest of the school year.
I didn’t find any reading material for me, but two wishes were granted from my Wishlist at Paperback Swap today so all’s good.
That’s great, Sarah! And I really did enjoy meeting you. Small world, huh? We got some books on animal tracks and pond life at the last sale…we must have some similar interests.
I was going to use some of these for science, but I found a couple of astronomy books and fall is such a wonderful time for stargazing. The sun goes down early, it is cool and there aren’t very many insects. So astronomy it is.
Isn;t it great when our hard work on the blog pays off! It’s nice to know SOMEone is actually reading it
Keep up the good work.
I’d like to be included in the giveaway for the science binder please. Thanks for offering it.
I see that you’ve given away the science binder but am so happy to have found you blog! I enjoyed reading your wishlist. I’ve started keeping an index card in my wallet with *my* wishlist so I remember to look for titles at garage sales and thrift stores.
My kids enjoy checking field guides out from the library. My preschooler enjoys the pictures while his older siblings use them for reference. For Home Ec, I found this great series of books “Secrets from Grandma’s Kitchen”- we haven’t used them yet but I enjoy flipping through them!
Okay. Count me in on the draw! If you’re shipping to Canada that is.
Grateful for the chance to win. As my children are currently in 4th & 5th grades, this resource would be a nice fit. Thanks, Dana!

However, for a giveaway–well, you can see that here I am! Especially since it’s science!

Wow! Well, you are all entered…even you, Amy since I haven’t given it away, yet. I’ll probably do that next Friday. (I’d say that I will, but with my luck, my blog will be down or my internet won’t be functioning or my monitor won’t turn on all day because I said I’d do something.)
Dana, please put my name in the hat!
Thanks!
Oh, and I think I can swing Canada. Maybe I should have said something about not shipping overseas. That could be pricey, plus the kids will probably graduate before it gets there.

Now see, I would have been all over art books and probably forgotten to even look for science resources.
My son doesn’t forget though. Science is his favorite subject. We just studied Leonardo Da Vinci, so we both enjoyed it immensely.
All that to say, please enter me. We could use some more science books to balance out the art shelf.
Glad you found some great books and made a new friend in the process!
Love your blog! I’d like to be included in the drawing, please. The Science Binder would work well for us.Thanks!
Sounds great, count me in.
Thanks
Somehow, I could see that in you, Renae.
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much in the way of art books. There were a lot of biographies, but not being very up with things of art, I didn’t even know what to look for. I was seriously hoping for some coffee table books…in about any style. But I do know who Da Vinci is, so we got at least one biography.
I was happy at the number of science books we were able to find, though. I never even made it over to the children’s books, but my husband and kids spent a long time there, so I trust we didn’t miss anything too terribly important. He knew more or less what I was looking for!
What a great blog! Please include me in the science drawing. Thanks!
Count me in please, I enjoy your blog!
