On my second trip to the ER, I was taken a little more seriously and got a little more than ineffective pain killers. The pain was like nothing i’ve ever experienced…a full 10 on the hospitals little number chart with the little sad crying face…even with the maximum dosage of pain killers and muscle relaxants. In stead, I got morphine (which still did not do anything for the pain in my hip), an X-ray (which revealed nothing) and a needle inserted into my hip to remove some fluid for testing.
If it was an infection, the doctor said, I would likely experience some relief immediately following the procedure because it would relieve some of the pressure. Not only did the doctor get a full syringe of cloudy fluid but it came so fast it sprayed him and my gown. Kinda disgusting but it did give me instant relief. Suddenly I could sit with pain that was merely unbearable and could move without feeling like I was going to pass out from the pain.
Since the fluid was obviously infected, I was admitted to the hospital and scored surgery two hours later with an orthopedic surgeon who specialized in hips. After a conversation with a specialist in infectious disease I got a cool little tube draining my hip fluids into a bottle taped to my side and an IV I get to keep for four whole weeks! That came with a catheter which goes almost to my heart. I’m on crutches and will be for awhile. Actually, I’m not allowed to get up at all except go to the restroom and I’m going a little stir crazy here.
At any rate, it looks like I’m stuck here until Monday and then I get to either go to the doctor every day for an intravenous antibiotic treatment or they’ll teach me how to do it myself at home.
And I guess that is the long way of saying I shan’t be online for a few days at least. Hopefully I’ll be back next week when I’m home, allowed to move around and sit upright and a little more comfortable. And I probably will NOT be hosting the Carnival of Homeschooling or if I do it will publish late. If you sent yto our submission through BlogCarnival it will get where it needs to go. I you sent it directly to me, I’ll pass itt on and send you a note.

I wish you a full and quick recovery!
I was thinking of you today. Praying for you!!

Oh, Dayna, I’ve been buried in financial stuff since last week and only just learned of your hospitalization. I ended up in the hospital unexpectedly a couple of years ago with a staph infection and it was an awful experience, but luckily I had good care and my recovery was speedy and fairly uneventful. I wish the same for you! Hugs from far-off Alaska…
You poor thing. We will pray for your speedy recovery.
