What?! No crafts in school?! It shouldn't surprise me, but it somehow just seems very wrong.

And that sounds like a very special Mother's Day. My children don't have anyone but mom to direct them in that sort of thing, and it just seems weird to do that for yourself. :)

My boys (this year aged 8 and 11) make me breakfast and serve it in bed. They make up the menu and my DH supervises. The kids do the cooking. This year my 11 YO improvised/improved the belgian waffle recipe. Everything is from scratch except this year one son begged for hash browns, frozen from the grocery store (had them at a Boy Scout campout, we don't buy that kind of food).

The boys used to make me a card but last year and this year I got a store bought one they picked out at the store with my DH.

I don't get any of those crafty things either, that schools make. Although I will say that when I was in public school it was as you describe but in my town now the focus is on academics and the state standardized testing so elem kids and even Kindergarteners don't make so much of that any more. They are too busy doing work to make crafts. The art they make is structured like copying the style of Van Gogh or being directed that everyone has to paint a tiger and they are told how to do it. I know these things from my friends with kids in the public school system.

No Mother's Day crafts at our house. The kids know my favorite present is waking up to a clean house, lol! Usually they make something in Sunday School though. I always loved the hand print crafts, it is fun to watch them get bigger over the years.

Hey Dana!

How nice to have you visit my blog again - I have missed your visits friend, but don't feel bad at all - I know about craziness - I don't always make it around to the blogs I enjoy either - in fact (sheepish grin) it has been quite awhile since I have been here too. I am always enlightened though when I do visit. I see some of your recent posts beckoning me to read them - like the epidemic one! Can't wait to read your thoughts. ( :

I think I am quite a bit like Renae's mom - I keep a good supplies of craft idea books and supplies around.
But, my problem is that I have a horrible time not taking over the crafts when the kids are not making them the way I think they should be made. Drives me nuts, so I have learned to back off and let them create on their own accord. I am always amazed at what they come up with and produce on their own! ( :

Blessings,
Mandi

Ummmmm, I haven't even told my kids that it is Mother's Day, Sunday. (Hubby's in Afghanastan, so he hasn't told them, either.) I'm really with your husband. I prefer a year round appreciation. I prefer a craft project they made me just because they thought of it. BUT, two of them have heard ads on the radio and asked if it is Mother's Day. So, I might get a surprise. They're pretty good at that. We'll see. All I want is to sleep, and they always let me do that. ;)
