The kids do have a unique appreciation for rest stops. Anything that's out of the ordinary scope is magical-seeming, apparently. Travel is so much more fun with them. It makes things like maps and geography actually real, doesn't it? And topography. They've been building topographical mock-ups of the Cascade Range in the sandbox ever since we got back. LOL We did the west coast this May, British Columbia to California, three weeks. The kids do have a unique appreciation for rest stops. Anything that’s out of the ordinary scope is magical-seeming, apparently. Travel is so much more fun with them.

We took a big trip in May and I really regretted that I didn't have the kids navigate for me as we did when I was a kid. And we learned that lots of schools do trips in May, but none in September.
